The Digital Thread in Shipbuilding – Cdr. S Srikumar

The Society of Naval Architecture Students effectively organized the fourth episode of their third webinar series on January 27, 2024. The session centered on “The Digital Thread in Shipbuilding” and was led by Cdr Srikumar Subramaniam from L&T Defence.

The webinar served as a platform to delve into the transformative power of digital threads within the maritime industry. Through Cdr Srikumar Subramaniam’s expertise, participants were guided through a comprehensive exploration of how digital threads are reshaping traditional practices in shipbuilding.

Central to the discussion was the concept of the digital thread, which serves as a cohesive link connecting various stages of a ship’s lifecycle, including design, manufacturing, operation, and maintenance. By seamlessly integrating data and processes across these stages, digital threads facilitate greater efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration throughout the entire maritime ecosystem.

One of the key takeaways from the webinar was the imperative nature of adopting digital threads in modern shipbuilding practices. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how these digital frameworks optimize decision-making processes, streamline workflows, and ultimately enhance the overall lifecycle management of vessels.

The webinar was held online through zoom and was also live-streamed  on youtube.
