Digitalization in Submarine Building – L&T Story

The Society of Naval Architecture Students effectively conducted the fifth episode of their third webinar series on February 3rd, 2024. The webinar centered on the theme “Digitalisation in Submarine Building – L & T Story” and was led by Cmde PHM Salih, I.N. (Retd.), Senior Consultant Submarine Design at Larsen & Toubro Limited (Defence & Aerospace).

The webinar provided a comprehensive exploration of how digital technologies are revolutionizing the landscape of submarine construction. Drawing upon his extensive experience, Cmde PHM Salih highlighted the pivotal role played by 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and virtual reality tools in enhancing efficiency, collaboration, and regulatory compliance throughout the submarine building process.

One of the key insights gleaned from the webinar was the significance of real-time monitoring and predictive analytics in ensuring the reliability and performance of submarine systems. Through the deployment of digital twins, engineers can simulate various operational scenarios and proactively identify potential issues, thereby enhancing maintenance planning and operational readiness.

In conclusion, the webinar provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the transformative potential of digital technologies in submarine construction. By embracing digitalization, companies like L&T are not only redefining industry best practices but also paving the way for a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable future in underwater capabilities.
