About the Webinar
Dr. Shashi Bhushan Arya is a distinguished academic and technical leader, currently serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal. He also holds the position of Professor-in-Charge for Technical Clubs and Events, reflecting his active role in fostering student-led innovation and technical discourse.
The webinar titled “Corrosion Challenges and Its Mitigation of Marine Structures” was the fourth in the 2025 SNAS series, held on January 31st at 3:30 PM IST via Zoom and YouTube. The session addressed the pressing issue of corrosion in marine environments, which impacts durability, safety, and operational efficiency. Dr. Arya guided participants through the mechanisms of corrosion and highlighted strategies such as material selection, protective coatings, cathodic protection, and design optimization. He emphasized long-term durability and sustainability, aligning with global efforts to enhance lifecycle performance and reduce maintenance costs in shipbuilding and offshore engineering.
