On March 23, 2024, the Society of Naval Architecture Students hosted a webinar titled “Introduction to IMO, IACS, and Classification” led by Mr. Jeevanram S Pillai, Principal Surveyor at the Indian Register of Shipping.
During the webinar, Mr. Pillai provided a comprehensive overview of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), and the classification process within the maritime industry. He elucidated the roles and functions of these entities in ensuring safety, security, and environmental protection in international shipping.
Additionally, Mr. Pillai shared insights into the classification procedures, standards, and regulations governing vessel design, registration, and operation. The webinar served as a valuable educational opportunity for attendees to gain foundational knowledge in maritime governance and classification practices.
